Rent vs buy a humanoid robot
Unitree's official shop lists the R1 from US$4,900, the G1 from US$13,500 and the H2 at US$29,900, before tax and shipping. Renting one for a day costs from $299 (self-service G1) to several thousand dollars with an operator. Here is how the numbers compare, using only published prices.
Buy price vs rental price

Break-even, in plain numbers
At the G1's US$13,500 list price, the purchase equals about 45 days of self-service rental at $299/day, or about 7 operated days at $1,875/day. But the rental day rate also pays for things an owner must cover: delivery and transport, a trained operator, setup, insurance or damage cover, repairs and battery management. The base G1 also does not support secondary development, so custom programming needs the EDU edition, which Unitree prices on request, and the base G1 has an 8-month warranty (Unitree spec sheet).
When renting makes sense
- One-off or occasional events (a launch, a trade show, a wedding).
- You want an operator, a rehearsed routine and no hardware risk.
- You need a premium robot you would not buy (for example AgiBot A3 at "$6,499/day" from Airbot).
When buying makes sense
- You will use the robot on many days a year and have staff to run, transport and maintain it.
- You need to program it (research, education, product development); buy the EDU edition.
- For long trials before buying, monthly leasing exists: SVRC leases the G1 with a 3-month minimum, priced per project (source).
